Town Tit-Bits

by "JANE”

'yOW that the school holidays have begun, and with only a week left till Christmas, our local hostesses are energetically completing their Christmas shopping and preparing for the holidays—so there is really not much time for entertaining, although there have been, and will be, most likely, right into Christmas week, a few parties celebrating one thing or another. * * * Bowls of gladioli and carnations made Mrs L. A. Johnsons drawing room and lounge gay on Saturday night when she gave a “lea towel ’ evening for Grace Brown, while on ’Wednesday Mrs S. H. Ward chose .a “pantry" evening. This popular bride-to-be will ""be well stocked up with various household requisites. Some of the guests at these parties were Mesdames John G. Robertson, W- J. Glanville, W. T.« Surman, Harold Cotter, Ross Nelson, Eric Thomson. E. J. Parkes. F. Reynolds, D. O’Donoghue, A. Rowlands, S. C. Western McLeod ‘.(Te Aroha), Misses W. E. Lamb, Elsie Scarfe and Jean Stewart.

Barbara Walker hostessed a very jolly bridge evening on Tuesday night, and some of the young things there were: Mrs Ron Masters, Molly Packwood, Zee Ward, Mary Evans, Muriel Millington. Vera Campbell, Linda Symes, Mary Rishworth and Nell Ward.

On Thursday evening Linda Symes invited some of her friends out to her Junne at Kiripaka to show them hex trousseau, a lot of which she collected on her last trip to England. Those there were: Mrs R. <l. £)unn, Mrs Jim Shaw, Mrs Basil Pole, Mrs Clinton Jones, Mary Rishworth, Lucy Hutchinson. Madge Finlayson, Betty Wilson, Patricia Ryder, Noreen Knowles, Molly Packwood. Zoe Ward, Dorothy Steele, Nell Ward. Connie Harrison, Muriel Millington and Vera Campbell.

Of course, the comings and goings will be numerous from now on. Mrs G. M. Robertson and family left on Friday by car for Dunedin; Mrs L. G. Miller will visit Waipawa, Hawke ? Bay; and Mrs Zohrab will spend part of the holidays in Wellington.

Whangarel will be well represented at Takapuna and Milford. The A. H. Cranes, J. W. Halls, the Surmans and the Spencer Days will all be there foi pari of the time before going on elsewhere. Lang’s Beach is also popular with some of our well-kncwns. The R. K. Trimmers, the W. J. One?, the Hoskl'ngs, all complete with families, will be occupying their baches for the school holidays.

Lots of our lasses will be seen at Russell and Paihia. Tire K. H. Packwoods have a bach there, and will have Zoe Ward as their guest. Mrs Jim Shaw intends to spend part of the holidays deep-sea fishing before visiting her parents in Taranaki.
