Russell Womens Institute

The December meeting of the Russell Women's Institute attracted a full muster of members. The president, Mrs V. W. Lindauer. was in the chair. The Roll Call was a suggestion for the Flower. Home Industries and Produce Show to be held by the branch in March, 1939. Some excellent ideas for the improvement of the standard of the show came forward and it is anticipated that the coming annual event will surpass all previous efforts. It was also decided to hold the annual picnic on January 30. the location selected being Te Wahapu. a popular picnic spot between Russell and Opua. Mrs Lindauer came first in the written competition, with Mrs H. King and Mrs H. N. Ross, equal, in second place. Placings in the "Something new from something old" competition were as follows. Mrs H. King 1. Miss Simpson 2. Miss Bassett 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames M. E. G. Martin, H. Somerville and Miss M. Bassett.
