Keeping Mud From Port Basin

Eight thousand cubic yards of mud were removed by the Whangarei Harbour Board’s suction dredge in the past month.

Mr W. M. leaser, board’s engineer, reported on these lines to the board’s meeting yesterday. The cost of removal. he said, was 7d per yard. Mr Fraser also reported having completed the demolition of the old wharves at Oakleigh. The cost of demolition was about £l9O, and the quantity of timber recovered and barged was 25.000 super feet.

General Work

General work carried out included the changing of gas cylinders on all flashing beacons, the ploughing of 6i acres at the Kaituna Reclamation, the building of 15 chains of stop-bank at Port Whangarei, and the deepening of 14 chains of main drain .at Kaituna. At the suggestion of Mr R. H. Allan, the engineer was instructed to draw up an estimate of the cost of completing the dredging work.
