Double Feature At Plaza
“Love Is On The Air," a combination of comedy-drama raid mystery, with n radio commentator ns its hero, won the commendation of last night’s audience at the Plaza Theatre, both for the excellence of the picture itself and for a new player that Warner Brothers presented on* the screen. This is Ronald Reagan, a big goodlooking youngster who, until he made his debut in this picture, was a sports commentator for a loading Des Moines newspaper. June Travis is “Aunt Reth,” who talks to the dear kiddies of the radio audience. As Andy McLeod, ace commentator for Station KDTS, Reagan takes upon himself 10 denounce the political conditions of his city. One of the politicians is the sponsor of an important programme, and he indignantly threatens to withdraw his sponsorship unless Andy is hushed up. Andy suspects the disappearance of a certain prominent citizen is due to the machinations of the political ring. He rounds up a gang of crooks, who are taken' into custody after a fierce battle with the police.
Andy reports this battle on the spot, using his portable short-wave radio system. It is the sort of picture the whole family will enjoy. Something new and different in screen entertainment is provided by “Men of Yesterday,” a drama dealing with the adventures of servicemen after the Great War, which provides the second feature. The story deals with the efforts of a Major Radford to bring together the ex-servicemen of England, France and Germany, and his eventual success, after many setbacks, including (lie loss of his job. The veteran English character actor. Stewart Rome, is seen as the major, and he is supported by Will Fyffe, George Robey and Ella Shields.
