Red Ensign Losing On Every Sea
BRITISH SHIPPING
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 14. “Startling facts relating, to the shipping position are disclosed in the report of the Shipowners’ Committee, which will be submitted to the Government shortlysays, the “Daily Telegraph.” The report is expected to show that British shipping in every sea is fighting a losing battle against subsidised foreign competition, of which the pressure is greater than ever.
It is understod the committee proposes financing new large scale construction from public and private funds, laying up older ships which are not scrapped but held in reserve for emergency.
The “Daily Telegraph” comments that Britain will soon be incapable of holding out long in a major war if her shipping decline is allowed to continue.
