Bay Election Petition Judges
[Per Press Association . Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day.
The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and Mr Justice Blair have-been appointed Judges to try the election petition in Northland, according to a Gazette notice last night. The petition is against the return and election of Mr C. W. Boswell as member of Parliament for the Bay of Islands, and praying that it may be determined that Mr H. F. Guy was duly elected. The petitioners state that Maoris were wrongly included on the roll, and that there were cases of minors voting. They, also allege that there is reason to believe that apart from these votes the public declaration by the returning officer of the number of votes, received by the candidates is incorrect, and that a recount or scrutiny of the votes should be made. No date has yet been fixed for the sitting of the Election Court, but it has been stated by the AttorneyGeneral, the Hon. H. G. H. Mason, that there is little likelihood of the petition being heard before Christmas. He stated that there was som'e possibility of the court sitting during the legal recess in January on account of the pressure of other judicial proceedings.
