Promising All-Round Whangarei Athlete

At the conclusion of the first half of the Whangarei Amateur Athletic Club’s 1938 season a big lead in points has been established by L. Dyer who, with 21 points, now has a clear lead of 12 over his closest rival, Bell. Dyer’s performance is all the more meritorious in that he has gained points at six of the seven meetings, and has taken places in all the flat races from the 100 yards to one mile distances, and in the jumps. An old boy of Hastings High, School, Dyer is one of the most promising athletes who has ever competed in Whangarei, and has proved both his sportsmanship and his gameness. Although obviously proficient in all branches it is to be hoped that he will select one for specialisation. If he does provincial honours should come his way, POINTS TABLE. After seven meetings, points gained by club members at the end of the first half of the season are: L. Dyer 21, Bell 9, E. McKenzie 8, M. Alach 7, C. Benfell 7, Jim Calder 7. C.
