At the Westfield stock sale yesterday, there were large entries in almost every Section.
The proximity of ' the Christmas market, which is to be held next Tuesday, Was reflected in a slack demand in some sections.
Ox beef w,as quoted firm generally, and prices for cow and heifer beef slightly easier on the average. Both wethers and ewes lost ground in a slack sale while lambs were quoted steadily. Brices for fat pigs were steady, a slight improvement being recorded by stores.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., quote.— Sheep.—Heavy prime wethers, £1 1/6 to £1 2/6; medium, 19/6 to £1 1/3; light, 16/- to 19/3; small and unfinished wethers, 10/- to 15/9; odd small lots of prime maiden ewes, 15/to 19/-; heavy prime ewes, 12/- to 13/-; medium prime ewes, 10/3 to 11/9; light prime ewes, 8/6 to 10/-; inferiority fatted ewes. 1/- to 6/-; just killable ewes, G/6 to 8/-. Lambs.—Best, £1 1/- to £1 3/9; medium, 19/- to £1 0/9; light, 17/6 to 18/9; others, 14/- to 17/3. Pigs.—Choppers, £2 to £3 13/-; heavy and medium baconers, £3 10/to £3 17/-; light baconers and heavy porkers, from £3 to £3 8/-; medium porkers and light porkers, £2‘lo/- to £2 18/-; small, £2 to £2 8/-; large stores, £1 15/- to £2 7/-; slips, £1 3/ to £1 12/-; weaners, 12/- to £1 5/-. ' !
