Malted Milk for Maori Pupils

Arrangements are under way for supplying malted milk to the phpils of the Motuti and Mangamuka Native Schools, reported the health inspector to- the Hokianga County Council on Tuesday , ~ •f• • . Model By-Laws for Hokianga. The Hokianga County Council, meeting. on Tuesday, resolved to adopt in toto the model by-laws submitted by , the New Zealand Counties’ Association. These will come into force throughout the county on April 1, 1939. The resolution will be confirmed at the' next meeting of .the council on February 14, 1939. The ppunty clerk, Mr H. Chappell, explained ' that by adopting these new by-laws to replace the old laws, which were now obso>lete, the county would have a better form of government. The by-laws would give considerable assistance to the health inspector in the execution of his duties. * * • * Condition of Workers’ Huts The condition of the huts occupied by the county roadmen at Broadwood was the subject for some comment by the inspector of health in his report submitted to the meeting of the ' Hokianga County Council on Tuesday. The report stated that insanitary conditions existed and that although the huts were only temporary, it was necessary that sufficient privy accommodation and an adequate water supply be provided. Overcrowding would also have to be considered, and if families were to be |hoUsed, larger accommodation was necessary.

Car Caught by Tide A motorist who drove his car just a trifle too far on to the beach at Chase’s Gorge this week, was caught by a long sweep and it was only a matter of seconds before the car was buried to the running boards. With the tide coming in the position looked hopeless, but long and wide planks which had just been brought to a house by a carrier a few minutes before, were hurriedly rpsiied to the scene where after much fervent dig-’ ging and the willing assistance of a number of toheroa-gatherers the cc r was pushed to safety. A breakdown waggon was sent for but its services were not required when it arrived at the beach.
