Duchess Of Atholl To Fight By-Election

(Received 12 noon) LONDON, November 24. The Duchess of Atholl has resigned her seat in Parliament as Conservative member for Kinross and West Perth, and will fight an immediate bielection owing to the majority of the Kinross and West Perth Unionists Association Committee disagreeing with her opposition to the Government’s foreign policy. The Duchess is 63 years of age. She was elected for Kinross and West Perth in 1923, 1924, 1929, 1931, and 1935. She was Under Secretary for the Minister of Education, 1924-29. She did valuable work during the war and in Scottish education. She married the Marquess of Tullibardine, now Duke of Atholl, in 1899.

At the last election the Duchess, with 15,238 votes, defeated her only opponnent, a liberal, Mrs C. A. MacDonald by 5169 votes.
