Dr. Edward Leslie Burgin, Britain’s Minister of Transport, who, as a means of making the roads safer, commends the teaching of schoolchildren to be good users of roads, was elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal members for Luton in 1929. In 1931 he joined up with the Liberal Nationalists. He studied for the legal profession with distinction, and served as an intelligence officer during the Great War. He was mentioned in despatches, and was awarded the Italian Crose di Guerra.
