An Outstanding Sire
SUN FLARE IN THE NORTH. One of the best-bred representatives of the Sunstar line-at the stud in New Zealand, and one who has had practically .no'.chances, is Sun Flare, who is now standing at Mr F. Dibble’s farm on the Remuera Estate, Bay of Islands. Sun Flare is by the Derby winner, Sunstar, sire of winners of £230,045 in stakes, from Florena, by Orby (Derby) from laurinn by Persimmon (Derby) from lernor by Bend Or (Derby) from lerne (1) by Hermit (Derby). Sun Flare, therefore, has the unusual distinction of having five Derby winners in his pedigree in direct line. As line the family is a successful one, as ierncr was a half-sister to Flitters, dam of Bronzino, beaten a head by Swynford in thd St. Leger, and a successful sire in-Australia, and fourth dam of Blenheim and King Salmon. The lastmontioned has made a good start at the stud, 'while' Blenheim, who was sold to America for £45,000, is still meeting with great'success in England, among his winners this’ year being Mirza 11. and La-Li. and the two-year-olds Bente Mira,' Yaklmour, Valedeh, Ocean Pride and Veracite. The branch of the No. I family to which Sun Flare belongs runs back to the Newminster mare The Mersey, dam of the Grand Prix winner Trent, and of Shannon, winner of the Doncaster and Goodwood Cups. Flippant, a halfbrother to Bronzino, was also at the stud in Australia, and left some good brood mares, among them being the dams of Flail and Sixteen Annas. A brother to Blenheim is His Grace, who won the Royal Standard Stakes and Epsom Coronation Cup last season. Sun Flare is a half-'brother to Lady Marjorie, one of the most brilliant three-year-olds of 1931. who was unluckily beaten by a head by Four Course in the One Thousand Guineas, and started equal favourite with Brulette for the Oaks,
