[Special to “Northern Advocate ” 3 AUCKLAND, This Day. The semi-final gallops in connection with the Auckland spring meeting took place on the course proper at Ellerslie this morning, the poles being out 50 feet from the rails. The going was dead, but nevertheless some firstclass trials were registered. The best
icund of the morning was credited to Francis Drake, while Marie’s Acre and Fhilcourt returned the best figures for six furlongs. Gay Son did best over five furlongs, and Oriental Bay and Kelly both put up smart efforts over half a mile.
Eudorace ran home from the halfmile post in 53 3-5 seconds.

Fleetwind, ’ after running her first two furlongs in 26 1-5 seconds, completed five in 1.7. Kelly reeled off half a mile in 51 4-5 seconds, taking 13 seconds for his first furlong.
Land Girl was to have gone away from the seven-furlong post. She held up her rider for some time, eventually getting away slowly at the six-furlong post, running her last five furlongs in 1.8 1-5.
Mai de Mer and Vaal. Star completed seven furlongs in 1.35 1-5, the first three taking 39 4-5 seconds. Bonnybelle and Bronze Emerald came home from the four furlong post in 54 2-5 seconds.

Electric Spear finished in front of Tiptoes and Te Maranui over five furlongs in 1.7. They ran the first two in 26 2-5 seconds, and Electric Spear was running on solidly at the end, though Tiptoes was not ridden out. Valmint had little pace on when he jumped away at the mile post, and was timed to run his last six furlongs in 1.26 1-5.
The two-year-olds High Caste and Konnota were in front of Tableau and La Vie at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 4-5 seconds.

Birthday Boy was given an easy six furlongs, taking 1.25 2-5.
The Jumpers,
King Musk and Lighter gave a safe display over four hurdles in the centre. They were not going very fast, especially over the first part. King Rod was schooled over four steeplechase fences on the flat, giving a first-rate exhibition.
Electric Flash went away by the seven furlong post and jumped seven of the big steeplechase fences, going over the hill and finishing up at the stone wall. Apart from running down a couple of fences slightly, it was an attractive display. Salon and British Sovereign started off over a round of the steeplechase course, British Sovereign blundering at the fence by the mile post, losing his rider. Salon continued over the hill, but, after jumping the stone wall at the bottom, he finished up on the course proper. He gave a fast and clever display.
®The arrivals this morning included Happy Landing, Russian Ballet, Homily and Quadroon. Barrister arrived last night and has joined W. McLean’s team.
