Mr Barclay Reveals His Pledges
Pressed by a questioner at his meeting last night in the Kamo hall, Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P., replied as follows to the challenges contained in the National Party advertisement inserted in the “Northern Advocate”: —
Mr Barclay was challenged by the Marsden National Party Committee to prove in writing—
(1) That the official objective of the Labour Party is not the socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange. Mr Barclay’s answer was: The objective of the Labour Party is socialisation.
(2) That the diagram (shown in advertisement) is not a true copy of the ticket of membership of the Labour Party. Mr Barclay’s answer was: So far as I know, it is a true copy of the ticket.
(3) That Mr Barclay did net sign the pledge to support the official objective of socialising the means of production, distribution and exchange. Mr Barclay’s answer was: I signed the ticket, the same as the Nationalists do on their tickets.
“I do not wish to enter into any argument with the ‘Advocate’ on Socialism,” went on Mr Barclay. “I have always answered questions as they are put to me at a meeting.”
