Huge Cost Of Armaments

(Received Noon.) LONDON, October 3

Although it is claimed that mobilisation has proved that the French army can be mobilised in one-third the time it took in 1914, nevertheless it cost £40,000,000, including requisitions, among which were 1000 motor cars. Newspapers in Rome disclosed that Italy secretly mobilised 800,000 reservists during the crisis, making 1.400,000 troops under .arms. They point out that the smoothness of the mobilisation methods enabled the move to be carried out without alarming the civilian population. Reservists are now demobilising.
