Marists Beat Rugby Champions
In a game controlled by the Marist forwards in fast breaking and covering tactics, Marist Old Boys defeated Ponsonfcy at Eden Park on Saturday for the Rugby Union’s Jubilee Trophy, by 17 points to 11. Hie hard ground and summer-like conditions made the game as much a test of fitness as of football ability, and in this respect Marist had the advantage, Ponsonby got the ball in the scrums, even though there were one or two notable absentees from the pack, but by the .breaking and back-ing-up tactics mentioned the Marist forwards mastered Ponsonby’s backline attack, and their own rearguard showed initiative which brought scores. Except for ten minutes in the first spell, the initiative throughout was with Marist. s
