Miniature Rifle Shooting Season Ends
A successful 1938 reason was con. eluded by the Whagarei fMiniature Rifle Club on Friday evening with the last shoot of the year ,and the presentation of trophies. The presentation ceremony took the form of a smoke concert.
There was a good attendance of members for the final shoot, in which a noteworthy performance was registered by Mrs R. Lynch in securing a possible of 70 off the rifle. Other leading scores were M. Hore, 68—2—70, Mrs Hore, 66—4—70, and A. Hewitt, 66—4, —70. Mrs Lynch and M. Hore received trophies for the occasion. In the absence or the Patron, Mr A. J. Murdoch, who did not .arrive until late in the evening, the president, Mr E. A. Higgins, occupied the chair at the social function.

After the loyal’ toast, the following toast list was honoured; Trophy donors, Mr H. Davies, responded to by Mr E. Reed; trophy winners, Mr E. A. Higgins, responded to by Messrs L. Holmes and J. Pattison; the ladies, Mr M. Stewart, responded to by Mrs Davies; the artists of the evening, responded to by Messrs K. Ward, T. Thomas and H. Cribble; the press, Mr M, Hore, responded'to by Press representatives; Stewards, Mr R. Lynch, responded to by Messrs W. Norris and J. Litchfield; the visitors, Mr A. J. Murdoch, responded to by Mr C. E. Bush (Auckland).
Offers of donations of trophies from Messrs A. J. Murdoch, C. E. Bush, R. Massey and H. W. Davies (on behalf of an anonymous donor) were received with applause.
During the evening Items were rendered by Messrs H. Davies, A. J. Murdoch, K. Ward, T. Thomas and H. Gribble. ,
The War Office states that, although it was found necessary to announce 'the scheme for the Auxiliary Territorial Service for women during the recent emergency, this scheme had been in preparation for some time, and will form a recognised service in future. It will be run on the same lines as the Territorial army in peace time, but, in the event of war service, will be paid full time,
