Jersey Stud Stock In Demand
The sixteenth National Jersey Show and sale organised and developed to the. most important sale of bulls of dairy breeds anywhere in the world, was again patronised by buyers from all' parts of the North Island. Held at Claudelands show grounds, Hamilton, an; offering came forward which was one of the best in the history of this annual fixture.
The show, held prior to the sale, evinced a very keen interest, and the judges, Messrs. C. G, C. Dermer (Cheltenham), H. Moreland (Newstead), H. J. Lancaster (Glen Oroua) and W. H. Mlers (Rototuria), all members, of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, had some wonderful cattle- paraded before them. Final selections were not easy to make. The Grand Champion The grand champion bull, Ivondale Waifs Hero, was exhibited by Mr. J. Haskins, Manutuke, Gisborne. This bull, bred by Mr. P. J. Peterson,. Waitara, was purchased by Mr. Haskins at the 1935 National at 66 gns, who resold him this year at 105 gns to head Mr. ,E- Hoffman’s stud at Kati Kati. f The junior champion, Oxford Golden ■Baton, is cne Of the finest yearling bulls the Dominion has yet produced. He was bred and offered on account of Mr. Truby King, of New Plymouth, who had the distinction of breeding both his sire and dam. Other Winners
Oxford Golden Baron topped the sale at 142 J gns and was secured for the well-known “Marshlands” stud-,
owned 'by Mr. W. J. Chynoweth, Walton.
The two-year-old championship was Won by the classy youngster Beaulieu Gale, bred and exhibited on account of’ Dr. G- Walker, of Whangarei. He was purchased by Mr. A. D. Walker j (Ngaere) at 100 gns. I The class for three yearling bulls j was woo for the fourth time in suecession by Mr. J. Jameson (Masterton), and on each occasion his .group was sired by the • well-known champion, Woodlands Viola Forward—a remarkable feat under such wide competition. The winning three this year made the splendid average of 59 gns. ' The prizes in each section were widely distributed and the show .generally was on a truly National scale. Mr- C. G. C. Dermer, who presented the cups, referred in eulogistic terms to the standard to which the National has been raised and its great benefit to all those requiring herd sires. Brisk Bidding
Bidding was brisk from the commencement to the finish of the sale and the splendid average of 42 gns whs yvVifßine/? ftiA 118 head sold. Ihe
cattle were of an e venly I high j standard throughout and a feature of j the sale was the consistent nature of j values. Considering the quality of the _ offering buyers showed sound judg- j ment in buying at this sale and un- ( doubtedly got good value for- their investments. Seven bulls t sold; above 100 gns and 14 above 70 gns. Northland Sales Northland bulls sold for more than 40 guineas included the following from Dr. G.
