Takahue School Jubilee Banquet

About 180 people were present at the school jubilee banquet held on Saturday evening. This was one of the most successful functions held during the jubilee celebrations. Catering was carried out locally and was a credit to the women of the district, the beautiful cake being made by Mrs H. Carr and iced by Mrs N. Masters.

Tire 50 candles on the cake were blown out jointly by Mrs Gallagher and Mr Walker, the first teacher at the school.

Congratulatory telegrams were received from the New Zealand Educational Institute, Mrs Rutledge (Auckland), Miss Price (Hamilton) and Mr Turbot (Auckland), each of whom was an ex teacher.

Mr Elliott, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, was present and Captain Rushworth represented the Minister for Education, the Hon. P. Fraser.

Mr A. McL. Wright was toastmaster and the following toasts were honoured: “The King,” the toastmaster; 4 “The School,” Mr Donald Banks, and replied to by Mr Saunders; “Ex-Pupils,” Mr J. McCullough, and replied to by Mr Gerald Bradley; “Headmasters and Teachers, Past and Present,” Mr J. Stewart, and replied to by Mr R. W. C. Walker; “Auckland Education Board,” Captain Rushworth, and replied to by Mr Elliott; “School Committees,” Mr Robert Bradley, and replied to by Mr J. Stewart; “Absent Friends,” Mr 1. Carr; “Pioneers of the Past,” Mr W. R. C. Walker.

Mr D. Saunders thanked all those who helped to make the evening a success, especially, Mrs Carr and her band of workers.

Maori Concert

A Maori concert given by the Whangape and Manakau native troupes was held at the conclusion of the banquet, the songs, hakas and poi dances being enjoyed by all present.

A short dance concluded a very successful evening.

Church Service

A church service on Sunday afternoon. formed flitting conclusion to the jubilee celebrations. The Eev. H. Taylor conducted the service. Mr W.R. C, Walker reading the Scriptures.
