F seems that Spring with disconcerting suddenness, has passed behind us. and we are embarking upon summer with its long, hot sunny days. Nevertheless the social season is not yet over and feminity is being kept well occupied. * * * 9 Okaihau was on fete on Monday night when oneof the nicest dances of the season was given by the committee of the National Party. Nikau palms and arum lillies, together with multicoloured streamers and balloons festooned from the ceiling, gave the hall a festive appearance. The members of the energetic committee were: Mesdames J. Lewis, L. McSweeney, F. Nixon, E. Warrington, L. McAuley, M. McSweeney and E. Anderson.

Mah jongg is still being played very vigorously in the north and one of the main parties of the week was given by Mrs Eric Thomson at her home in Oranga Read . . . Frangrant bowls of freezias and spring bulbs decorated the drawing room and the entrance hall, where the hostess, in a smart parma viclet gown, received her guests who were: Mesdames W. T. Surman, J. WHall, A. T. Brainsby, W. A. Christiansen, John G. Robertson, E. Gumming, S. C. Blanshard, C. A. Jones, L. G. Miller, Eric Harrison and Misses Win Lamb and Elsie Scarfe.

Mrs A. Oberlin Brown was another hostess this week when she invited friends out to her home in Ruatangata to meet her daughter-in-law, Mrs Campbell Brown, who, perhaps, is belter known as “Bunty” Schmidt. Masses of pink peach blossoms wore used for floral decorations and the hostess received her guests in a very smart clover jnarocain frock. She was assisted by her daughter'Patricia, who was sporting the new henna shade, while the gueSt of honour wore an unusual frock of gold brocade. Those sipping tea were: Mesdames C. H. The younger set was well represented on Saturday night at Kamo Springs when the committee of the Badminton Club hold one of the brightest dances of the season. Some of those enjoying the fun were: Mrs Joyce and Misses Olive and Joan Martin, Zoe Ward, Mary Evans, Marjorie and Dorothy Brigham, Molly Packwood, Gwen Halliday, Barbara Walker, Alaska Lloyd, Frances Findlay, Joan Ford, Inez Larsen.
