Protection For All Mtorists

A new and striking system of road marking to draw the attention of motorists to three level crossings at Te Papapa has been adopted by the Onehunga Borough Council (says an Auckland paper). Some 75 yards before each of the crossings the word “Railway” is painted in white across the bitumen surface of the roadway in 2ft letters. Preceding this sign, and following the line of the road, the word “Slow,” in the same size lettering, and spaced at intervals of a yard, gives ample warning of the danger ahead. It is considered that the new system will materially assist in reducing the accident toll at the crossings. This system of marking the road is striking, but it is not new.
