Electrifying Northland Districts
An outline of the activities of the North Auckland Electric Power Board’s outside staff was given by the engineer. Mr T. R. Overton, in his 1 report to the board yesterday. “A distance of approximately four 1 miles from the present line at Tikipunga along the Kiripaka Road has been canvassed, and although an estimate has not been made it seems quite likely that the guarantees will be suf--1 ficient,” said Mr Overton. “A start ! has also been made on the Hukerenui i area, but the canvass has not gone I sufficiently far to comment. The Kaiwaka district is under way. So far 45 jobs have been signed, and the end of next week should see the two groups about finalised. “The canvass at Maungakaramea and Tauraroa had to be suspended owing to sickness in the staff and extra work with milking machine motors. However, the canvass is again in progress and about two or three weeks should see the job through. Extensions Applied For. “Applications for extensions in Kaiwaka district have been made, also preliminary plans for Kirikopuni and Pukehuia districts. Survey work is being carried out in the WhatitiriPoroti district and Taipuha. A portion of the Tangowahine area has been completed. Route miles of work done have been 17 miles 58 chains of high tension, 16 chains of low tension and 2 miles 20 chains of service lines. ‘The inspector reports that the office counters and frames fcr the new building are about complete, likewise the plumbing work. Plasterers are getting along slowly. The painter will scon be on the job and should not take long. “Attendances to consumers are on the increase. Street and community lamps have been replaced as required, and switching re-arranged to meet summer time. Wiring Gangs’ Activities. No. 1 wire gang, Whangarei, in camp at Marua, finished the main line, and at Msddison’s Road they completed 50 chains of 11 k.v., 60 chains of 400-volt line, one transformer, five low tension poles and a set of earthguards. At Mcßreen’s Road 58 chains of 11 k.v., : 75 chains of 400-volt line and erected one transformer. Lowe’s Road, com- < pleted 72 chain? of 11 k.v., 50 chains ' of 400-volt line and one 10 k.v.a. trans- < former. Service lines finished were 1 four single phase and 14 three phase. “No. 2 wire gang, at Onerahi, erect- < ed seven poles, 15 chains of 11 k.v.. ’<■ 28 chains cf 400-volt line and 24 chains 1 of low tension to Gwynn’s. At Kamo i Hill, it completed two additional low t tension wires for a distance of 12 1 chains, also 16 chains cf one wire, and £ replaced one 7i k.v.a. transformer, and £ at Ruatangata Road erected 25 chains t of 400-volt line. Service lines com- £ pleted were 15 single phase and 22 £ three phase, the above including the erection of 23 service poles.” ' The engineer’s report was adopted. r
