[Per Press Association. Copyright.l DUNEDIN, This Day. In an address to about 2000 people in the Dunedin Towpi Hall last night, Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P. for Otago Central, won a noisy duel with the organised opposition of several hundreds. Police intervention was necessary frequently, and numerous interrupters were ejected. About half-way through the meeting, about 200 people left in a body, leaving the speaker to claim that one man had routed the forces of Socialism. Mr Bodkin attacked the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage,"and the Cabinet, for the sudden retreat from Socialism for election purposes, quoting Ministerial utterances to stress the point. He outlined the National Party’s policy of progressive land settlement as a means tp the absorption of 60,000 men now, bn Public Works, whose employment by industry had been rendered* impossible for socialist legislation. A vote of confidence in the National Party was carried amid deafening applause.
