Barnard, who is the Labour candidate for the Napier scat, opened his campaign at Napier last night. There was a crowded and enthusiastic audience. Mr Barnard reviewed the Labour Government’s work, and described the future policy of the party, if elected. dealing especially with defence and the problem of increased population.
“I stand for a policy of carefullypknned immigration, adding to our population by bringing in people to fill the obvious gaps," said Mr Barnard. "One prefers British stock, but people from Scandinavia and Holland arc also welcome. But the best type of citizen is one born in New Zealand.
A vote of cofidence in the Labour Government, was passed unanimous-
