Northland Amateur Snooker Title

The first rounds of the Northland amateur snooker championship were played in Everett's billiards saloon on Saturday evening, when four Kaikohe snooker enthusiasts met four well-known Whangarei players. Some very close and enjoyable contests eventuated.

The match of principal interest was between M. Russ of Kaikohe and R. Conaghan of Whangarei, which produced snooker of the highest order. At the end of the second game the score was cnc all and in the final game Russ potted the black to win the match amidst great excitement from the numerous spectators.

N. McKinnon, of Whangarei. after a close game with F. Eisonhut, of Kaikohe, soiled the match with <v fairly easy victory in the second game, while R. Quinlan won from S. Pausina by two games to nil.

The game between Bowman, Portland, and A. Russ, of Kaikohe, was of a very even nature, being black to win all three games, but Bowman came out the winner by two games to cne. i The second round games are as follows: H. Beehre v. R. Doel, Wednesday evening; E. Harrison v. G. Baker, Tuesday evening; N, McKinnon v. Bowman, Thursday evening: and M. Russ v. R. Quinlan, Saturday evening, the winner to play the winner of McKinnon and Bowman at 8.30 p.m. •
