Brake, Not Accelerator

(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, September 7

Mr C. W. A. Scott, the famous avi.ator, is of the opinion that his flight to Melbourne in 1934, with the late Mr Campbell Black, actually retarded civil aviation.

He says that no plane has been produced since capable of equalling the performance of his machine. Aircraft manufacturers, instead of making up for lost time, sat down and rested on their laurels. The flight referred to was the Melbourne Centenary Air Race, from England to Australia, Scott and Campbell Black winning the speed section of the competition. Their plane, a D.H. Comet, was presented to them by their backer, Mr A. O. Edwards, at the end of the race.
