In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, one day’s leave of absence was granted to Mr Richards on account of illness in the family, and four days to Mr Tau Henare on account of illness.

The Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley, Bishop of Melanesia, is visiting Auckland. Later, he will visit Whangarei for a short period, Mr E. Bruce Levy, Director, Grasslands Division, after a short tour of Northland with Mr E. B. Glanville, Agricultural Instructor, Whangarei, returned to Wellington to-day. Mr T. Ramsbottom, for several years stationmaster at the Whangarei railway station, leaves to-day to take up a new appointment at Otahuhu. His successor, Mr M. Curran, who has been stationed at Tauranga, assumed duty at Whangarei on Monday. c Mr H. R. Denize, inspector of stock for the Department of Agriculture; at Palmerston North, has been appointed principal inspector in Otago and Southland. He will be succeeded at Palmerston North by Mr H. A. Bayley,. inspector at Whangarei.

At this morning’s meeting of the Whangarei Fire Board, the chairman, Mr E. W.‘ Tibbits, extended a welcome to a former member, Mr H. C. Rishworth, who has been re-appoint-ed to the board in place of Mr G. H. Morrish by the Whangarei Borough Council. Mr Morrish did not seek re-appointment at the recent municipal elections.
