OBITUARY

Mr. John Nicholson

The death has occurred of Mr John Nicholson, aged 80, who has been licensee of the Criterion Plotel. Otahuhu, for the last 17 years. Mr Nicholson,' who was born in Auckland, was the sen of the building contractor who built the Old Stone Jug Hotel, and the original Auckland Hotel in Wynclham Street. In his youth he went to sea. and travelled in many of the old sailing ships. Returning to the Dominion. iip worked in the bush for: some years before taking up hotelkeeping m the Mercury Bay district. He was later licensee of the Kohukohu Hotel, Hokianga, for 16 years, and Vn 1916 took over the Star Hotel. Otahuhu. Five years later he became licensee of {he Criterion Hotel.
