Salamaua’s Exciting Voyage
(Received 8.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 19,
There was more excitement today for the passengers and crew of the Salamaua, when, during the tow from Newcastle down the coast, the Mako again broke away, and at about the same time the Salamaua’s engines gave trouble.
Both vessels were seen from the sihc'fe apparen|ly drifting helplessly off Terrigal. A wireless message to Newcastle brought the powerful tug St. Hilary to the scene, and the tug took the Mako in tow at 2 p.m. The S'alamaua soon got going again, and the three vessels are due in Sydney to-night. The Salamaua and the Mako have arrived at Sydney. Both will probably be docked. Passengers on the Salamaua say the towline parted at 7 o’clock on Thursday night. The Mako drifted helplessly in the path of coastal shipping, four miles off the shore, until taken in tow to-day by the St. Hilary.
