Kaikohe Town Board Meets
(From Our Own Correspondent). KAIKOHE, This Day. The monthly meeting of the Kaikohe Town Board was held on Monday, Mr W. Skaw presiding over an attendance ol four Commissioners.
The balance sheet for the year ended March 31. 1938, was returned from the Audit Department and formally adopted by the board.
The rates struck at a special meeting held previously to investigate the position were confirmed.
Permission having been received from the Justice Department, the board is proceeding with the erection of a fire bell in front of the courthouse.
In reply to a query from Commissioner Mcrfettc, in regard to the progress; made by the Public Works Department in the establishment of an aerodrome at Kaikohe, the clerk reported that the department had not replied to the board's last letter. It was decided to communicate again with the department.
A circular from the Canterbury Progress League in reference to motor taxation and the use of main highways funds was received. It was decided to support the league in its contention that all moneys raised by motor taxation should be spent on highways and not diverted for use in other channels.
Mr D. May waited on the board requesting that attention be given to storm-waters which were diverted on to his property as a result of road formation. The board advised ,Mr May that the road foreman would attend to the matter.
As a result of considerable discussion it was decided to vary the duties of the surfaceman who also acted as building inspector and traffic officer. In future this employee will conduct tests for drivers’ livenses and carry out building inspections on Wednesdays and Fridays only.
