Should Whangarei Challenge Auckland?
Last Saturday was a day of triumphs i'or Whangarei football. Victories by a weakened representative team over Grammar Old Boys and by the HiJuirangi club ever Otahuhu proved that there is little amiss with our club football, in fact, some of the giant-killers would like to see the Whangarei loam, after several games together, matched with an Auckland representative fifteen. Considering that there were ten Whangarei men in the North Auckland team beaten by a single point at Eden Park, such a challenge could be lodged with every justification.
So enthralling in its Hashing back movements and in the pace at which it. was contested was the match at Kensington Park that the union’s policy in transferring the venue was more than justified. In fact, many supporters would have liked to have seen more play at Kensington this season. If any confirmation of his ability was necessary, Ken Rika gave it with his three tries, two of which were almost solely due to his own initiative. But his value to his side did not end there. Not once did Spittal, the opposing wing, pass the plucky young Maori lad.
