A Northla Novelist
Miss Jane Mander has written several novels of bygone life in the Northland that have found delighted readers all over the world, but especially .among those who know the North and can, with pleasure, recall the old times of pioneer adventure which she vividly describes. Perhaps a small few, will not "recall with pleasure,”
and therefore not altogether relish the realistic re-creation of the .actual in her development of an absorbing romance. Chief among her successes is “Tiie Story of a New Zealand River,” which, originally published at 8/6 in England, and out of print for some time, though still in demand, is now republished at 3/G <N,Z. 4/G). It is without doubt, a fine story of the roaring days of the timber industry. The Wairoa river and Dargavillo are not liard to recognise. The story itself is close to life as it, was, with many intimate and human* touches of insight and interpretation.
