Producing a pistol after kneeling at the altar with his bride, Kazimierz Tokarczk, aged 34, shot her dead, and then committed suicide, says a message from Warsaw.
A local native named Karo was hanged today on the beach at Port Moresby, New Guinea, for the murder of a native acting-constable named Ume, and also his wife and child. Several hundred natives gathered on the beach and chanted the death-song, which was audible to Karo, who said he was prepared to pay for his wrongdoing. ■ • m • Nearly complete returns from the. Democratic primary election in Kentucky give Mr A. W. Barkley a lead of 50,000 votes over the Governor, Mr Albert B. Chandler, for nomination to the Senate. This assures Mr Barkley of renomination. It is a signal victory for President Roosevelt, who visited Kentucky and urged the voters to return the Senate’s majority leader in spite of Mr Chandler’s popularity owing to the balancing of the budget by the State administration, in sharp contrast to the national policy.

V s? * * The Foreign Secretary, Viscount Halifax, was among the volunteers who lent a hand to fight a fire which broke out on his estate near Carrowby, Yorkshire, during a thunderstorm. The fire occurred in a farm building, on Woodley Wold, part of Lord Halifax’s estate, when the barn and granary were struck by lightning.
