Watersiders May Be On Full Time

Endeavours are to be made for waterside workers employed by the Whangarei Harbour Board to be given full-time works, from which they can be called to handle ships coming into port. At the meeting of the board yesterday, Mr R. H. A. Allan stated that the watersiders had been receiving an average of about £2/2/- per week, seven of the men being paid sustenance in addition. These men had now been offered full-time work on full wages elsewhere, and their sustenance had been stopped. Mr Allan suggested that the board provide work for the men during the off-days, when no vessels were in port. The chairman, Mr J. A. Finlayson, supported this scheme, and suggested that a conference should be called at j which the board, the Labour Department, the shipping companies and the men should be represented. The board adopted this suggestion.

pertunity of having a second shot from the rebound should the goalkeeper take the ball on his pads. A much more effective way is to make | use of the push or flick shot, i To obtain the greatest benefit from this shot it is advisable to work the ! ball well over to the left, thus drawj ing the goal-keeper to cover the righthand side of his goal; then, with a wristy flick or push stroke, propel the ball into the opposite corner of the | net. Usually the ball will rise, and i as the direction of the shot is conj coaled until the last possible moment, ; and as the height will vary in each i instance, the goal-keeper will find it I very difficult to stop, j When play is in the circle, always ibe ready lo “follow in" on another | forward’s shot at goal. Too many j chances can’ be missed through not 1 carrying this move into effect.
