The First Test Team
(Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 20. The All Blacks’ team to play Australia in the first test match next Saturday will be chosen from the following 19 players:— Full-back: Taylor. Three-quarters: Phillips, Morrison, Wesney, Mitchell. Five-eighths: Sullivan. Griffiths. Berghan. Half-back: Saxton. Forwards: Dalton. Geox'gc. Quaid, Jackson, McKenzie. King. Bowman, Williams. Milliken, Parkhill. The All Black captain, N. A. Mitchell, is suffering fi'om influenza. Although he has almost x'ecovered, ho may be unable to play in the first test match on Saturday. Dalton is suffering from a slight shoulder injury. If Mitchell is unable to play, probably Wesney will take his place. Bowman may replace Williams. Otherwise the test team is likely to be the same as that against New South Wales last Saturday. The All Blacks will return to Sydney to-morrow.
The Australian, selectors Wave omitted Malone, an experienced test forward, from the Australian fifteen for Saturday Owing to an injured foot. Wilson (captain) will move from the second row to Malone’s place in the front row, and R. Kelly (N.S.W.) has been chosen for the second row vacancy.
The managers of the All Blacks, from the list of five referees submitted to them, have chosen Mr W. S. Chapman, who controlled last Saturday’s New South Wales game, to referee the first test.
