Staff-Sergeant Barnes, N.Z.P.S., attached to the Defence Department at Whangarei, has relinquished his appointment as Quartermaster-Sergeant, and is to act as instructor to the southern districts of the Northland area. For two vacancies on the directorate of the Maungatapere Dairy Company nominations have been received. The retiring members, Messrs John Breslin and J. A. Tims, are both seeking re-election, while the new aspirant is Mr Richard C. Reid. A postal ballot will close on August 8. Staff-Sergeant-Major J. Thompson, formerly of Ponsonby, Auckland, has joined the staff of the Defence Department at Whangarei, and commenced duty this week. He is attached to the No. 3 Area as Quar-termaster-Sergeant of the North Auckland Regiment and the North Auckland Mounted Rifles,
