Bay Of Islands Power Board Under Way

[Special to “Northern Advocate.”! KAITAIA, This Day.

At the Bay of Islands Electric Power Board meeting on Saturday, notice was received from the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, that the board’s application for the first instalment of £40,000 of its £300,000 loan has been granted, the rate of interest being 3i per cent.

The appointment of Mr. L. Mandeno, as consulting engineer to the board, was confirmed, and Mr. Mandeno was instructed to call for tenders for reticulation materials.

Out of 54 applicants, Mr Wallace S. Thorpe, of Auckland, audit inspector of the Government Audit Department, was appointed secretary-treasurer of the board. Mr Thorpe, who is a married man, aged 36, was born in New Zealand and has been 20 years in the Government service, of which 12 years have been spent with the audit department. He is well-known in the north, which he has regularly visited on official duties. His appointment takes effect on October 1.
