The death occurred ; at the Greytown hospital, yesterday afternoon, of Mr William Wilson Bird, aged 88 years. Mr Bird was first employed by the late Mr Alexander Sutherland at Lyall Bay, Wellington, in 1864, and Came to “Ngaipu,” Hinakura, in 1875, where he worked for Mr Sutherland’s sons, William and David, who are now both dead, and, up to the time of his death, for the sons of the late Mr David Sutherland, Messrs Alexander and Kenrleth Sutherland. Altogether he was for a period of 74 years in the employ of one family. This is claimed to be a New Zealand record.
