Training College Students' Allowances
[Special to “Northern Advocate .”] WELLINGTON, This Day,
The Minister of Education, the Hon. P, Fraser, said to-day that the Government recently approved the increasing of the total of ordinary and boarding allowances paid to married training college students to £209/15/- a year.
“Press reports,", said the Minister, “have in some cases conveyed the impression that this increase has been given with the object of inducing young married men to seek .admission to training colleges. This, however, is not the case. The increase has been given to relieve the position of those married men who are already in training at the colleges, and especially those men whose admission to college was delayed through the closing of the colleges in various districts. “No preference whatever will be given to applicants who are married. They will be admitted solely on their merits in comparison with those of other applicants.”
