The Plaza
A well-balanced and altogether delightful programme commenced a short season at the Plaza Theatre on Saturday night. Highly topical is the action film, in which Bon Bradman shows how he executes the strokes
which have made him the greatest record-smasher in the ganic of cricket. It is a film which no player or follower of the game can afford 1o miss. Featured among the other supports are Paramount and Pathe News, a musical extravaganza, “Hula Heaven,” a cartoon song, featuring the bouncing ball, and one of the most extraordinary and breath-taking shorts ever filmed, “Ids a Great Stunt.”
The main attraction Is a film depiction of Rex Beach's well-known novel. “The Barrier,” which deals with the early days of hunting, trading and gold prospecting in the Alaska of 1893. The forbidden love of a young army officer (James Ellison) for a halfbreed girl (Jean Parker) is the theme upon which a most intriguing story develops. As a French-Canadian lumberjack. Leo Carrillo is ideally cast. Glorious outdoor photography combines with breathless action scenes to make “The Barrier” an absorbing picture.
