Munificent Gift
(Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 8. Lady As tor, in a letter to “The Times,” announces that an anonymous benefactor is contributing £IO.OOO the nucleus of a £50,000 fund to enable, without delay, continuous Chatham House conferences such as axe shortly to be held i{i Sydney. The benefactors suggest the appointment of one man in the prime of life and with expert knowledge of international affairs, to travel between Chatham House and sister institutes in the dominions to ensure continuous personal contact. It would cost £2OOO a year and would need £50,000 as a capital sum. The benefaction is a tribute to Sir Abe Bailey’s effective influence on Chatham House, which, he endowed as headquarters of the Royal Institute for International Affairs. “The Times,” in a leader, warmly praises the munificence and approves the scheme.
