Port Whangarei Due Tomorrow. The Port Whangarei leaves Auckland tonight, and is due to arrive at the town wharf tomorrow afternoon with 200 tons of southern cargo, the largest direct shipment to Northland for a considerable time. It is only three weeks since the Port Whangarei was last here. She will unload on Monday and sail that day. * * ♦ * 1 Northland Boxing. Whangarei competitors at the boxing tournament at Dargaville on July 16 will be Alach, Farrell, Painter, Muir and Salle. Aucklanders to take part will include Black, Stock, Thompson and Woods. Dargaville boxers who intend to be contestants in the Whangarei tournament include K. Moran, J. Canavan and W. Phelan. * $ * * Whangarei Weather*. The week in Northland opened and closed with wet weather, with three | successive sunny days in the interim. | The total fall for the seven days up ; to Saturday, July 9, was 4.04 inches, j of which 2.70 inches fell between 5 j p.m. on Thursday night and 9 a.m. on | Friday. Kowhal Flowering In Whangarei. Surprisingly early, several sprigs of a red kowhai tree in a Maunu Road garden have burst into bloom. It is most unusual for kowhai flowers to appear until the month of September. * * $ * Meteorological Station. The Dargaville Chamber of Commerce at a meeting on Thursday emphasised the need for the establishment of a meteorological station at Dargaville. The meeting was advised by the Dargaville-Arapohue branch of the Farmers’ Union that it was prepared to assist the chamber in its efforts to secure a station in the Northern Wairoa district. In order to ascertain whether it could arrange for the staffing of the proposed station, the chamber decided to approach the borough council. * * * * Two Collisions in Cameron Street. Cameron Street was the scene of two motor collisions last evening. At about 5 o’clock, two five-seater cars became interlocked as the result of the front bumper of one entangling Itself in the rear mudguard of the second vehicle. The cars were ultimately separated without much damage being done to either. Later in the evening two other vehicles came into contact, one of them, a fairly new sedan model, being considerably damaged. There were no personal injuries in either case.
