Gunson - Smith
A very pretty wedding of wide interest took place in the Presbyterian Church, Whangarei, on June 15, when Marguerite Dorothea, only daughter of Mrs A. G. Smith and the late Mr Finlayson Smith, Whareora, was married to Allan Oswald, ' youngest son of Mr and Mrs S. G. Gunson, late of Maunu. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. Elliott. Mr K. Fresswood presided at the organ. The church was charmingly decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her eldest brother, wore a becoming gown of pearl toned bridal satin cut on graceful lines. The bodice, of unusual design, had a yoke of lace with high neck-line and fastened with tiny satin buttons at the back. The sleeves were tight fitting and ended in a point over the hand. The full flared skirt fell into a circular train, which was finished with cut lace and carried by two flower girls. The veil of real Brussels all-over lace, heirloom of over one hundred years, was arranged in simple old style with a top-knot of orange blossom and fell to form a second train. A sheaf of cream roses and dainty pink flowers was carried. The bride was attended by two friends, Miss Errol Hoban and Miss Yvonne Neild, and two flower girls, Margaret and Fay Smith, nieces of the bride. Each wore the bridegroom’s gift of a pretty bracelet. The bridesmaids were gowned alike in dainty frocks of cornflower blue figured taffeta, with stitched revers and the neck-line finished with a pink velvet rose. The blue net redingote was cut away in front to show the pleating of the frock. They wore halos of blue stitched taffeta and velvet rose-buds. Blue net mittens and shoes to tone finished attractive ensembles. Each carried a sheaf of pink and blue flowers and maidenhair fern. The flower girls wore miniature frocks of the bridesmaids in pink taffeta and net with blue flowers at the neckline and a wreath to tone. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Ross Sloane as best man and Mr Cyril Barge as groomsman. The reception was held afterwards at the Whangarei Hotel where Mrs Smith received the guests, assisted by Mrs Gunson. Mrs Smith wore a black ensemble with wine trimming and matching hat and carried a posy of gerberas and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom's mother wore a i navy blue frock inset with lace and toning hat and carried a posy of i autumn tinted flowers. The bride and bridegroom left by car for a motor tour. The bride travelled in an embroidered rust frock with hat to match and brown ccat and accessories.
