Rice Grass as Food. At the meeting of the Raupo Drainage Board yesterday, Mr T. Walton stated that he had noticed in Ruawai pigs rooting in soil about a couple of feet deep in search of the bulbous root of the South African rice grass. The pigs were clearing the area of the grass which was looked upon as a pest, but it seemed to him from the way the pigs were working that the roots would make valuable pig food.
Quarryman’s Death. At the adjourned inquest, the coroner, Mr T. J. V. Dunlop, found that the death of Henry Gray don Wright, which occurred at the Kawakawa hospital on June 30, was due to concus-’, sic-n following a fracture of the skull as the result of a premature explosion of gelignite at Opahi quarry. What actually caused the explosion was revealed in the evidence. The occurrence was accidental.
Bargaville Cricket Centre. The Northern Wairoa Cricket Association is to lay down three concrete wickets at Rugby Park, Dargaville, which will be the centre for interassociation matches. To raise finance, a subscription list will be circulated., Ncn-interest bearing debenture bonds will be issued and application will be made for assistance to the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation and the Auckland Cricket Association.
