County Share In Provincial Court, £IBB

In the event of the Whangarei County Council supporting a provincial court at the forthcoming Centennial Exhibition, the cost to ratepayers will be £IBB, stated a letter received at today’s meeting of the county council from the Exhibition organisers.

“You will remember that this matter lias been discussed once or twice before,’ ’explained the chairman, Mr. J. A. S. Mac Kay. “Nothing definite has yet been decided on. The time has come when we must decide whether to support the Auckland or the local court.’’

The council adopted a suggestion by Cr. T. N. Blake deferring consideration until after the meeting of local bodies and business men in Kaikohe later this month.

The protocol of the London Naval Treaty of 1936, invoking the so-called escalator clause, and making provision for an upper limit of 45,000 tons for battleships and a gun calibre of 16 inches, has been signed by Russia and Britain.
