Eyes On Lake Coleridge
[Per Press Association. Copyright 1 CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
The Minister of Public Works.' the Hon. R. Semple, will be asked by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to make public a report on the nature of the possible difficulties at the Lake Coleridge power station. This was decided by the council of the chamber last evening, when a report was received from the electricity vigilance committee.
“The committee has considered the Minister’s announcement that a leakage of water from the tunnel at Lake Coleridge threatened the power supply,” stated the report. “In view cf the importance of electrical supply to consumers throughout the province, the committee recommends that the chamber address a communication to the Minister asking him to place before the public at the earliest possible moment a complete report on the situation. If a power breakdown occurs, everyone in the province is affected. “If such a possibility faces Canterbury. the fullest publicity should be given, and immediate steps taken to proyide alternative facilities, and arrangements made for the supplying of essential industries and transport services."
