Mr. F. T. Jackman

OBITUARY

One of the early pioneers of the Whakapirau district, in the person of Mr F. T. Jackman, passed away on Friday evening at his home in Whakapirau, aged 84 years. Born in Beaulieu. Hampshire. England. Mr Jackman came to New Zealand nearly 60 years ago to join his brother, the late Mr W. H. Jackman, in a farming venture at Whakapirau. Mr Jackman had resided there ever since. The varied life of the pioneers was led by Mr Jackman during his early years, and ho was closely connected with the timber milling industry in the early days of the Kaipara. All his life in New Zealand was spent in fanning or in occupations closely allied to the soil. Although never taking an active part in public matters, deceased was respected by his neighbours, who always found him an upright man ready at all times to lend i a helping hand to any in need. In his earlier years. Mr Jackman, who was very fond of music, took an active and ■ prominent part in local amateur theatricals. Mr Jackman never married.

The interment took place in the Whakapirau Anglican Churchyard on Monday afternoon, the Rev. M. Bull officiating.
