Hemi, The Bright Light
(Received 2.30 p.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. Paying a tribute to the Kiwis’ tenacity in the second half of the Rugby League match against Queensland, despite the home team forwards’ overwhelming domination, the “CourierMail” says there were moments, when the scores were 18-11, that the Kiwis had a chance of taking control. That they failed entirely was due to the magnificent work of the Queensland pack. The “Sunday Mail’ ’says: “The Kiwis failed to give even glimpses of the brilliancy that wore down New South Wales. The forwards were overshaddowed in all phases.” The “Daily Telegraph” describes the match as disappointing, the Kiwis’ weakness being their failure to tackle effectively. A compensating highlight, however, was Hemi’s great goal from 65 yards. Mr Redwood, the manager, and the captain, McNeight, did not make any excuses. “We were beaten by the best team yet encountered." said Mr Redwood.
•They are a great team," said Mr McNcight. The Queensland League officials have opposed the cancellation of the Sydney engagement on July 2 to allow a tost against the Kiwis.
