Late Sporting
r Special to “Northern Advocate. 3 '! AUCKLAND, This Day. At Ellerslie this morning, No. 3 grass track was available only to horses with engagements at the Bay of Plenty meeting, to be held at Tauranga on Saturday, other horses being exercised on the sand tracks. The going was heavy and consequently galloping was restricted. Several jumpers were schooled over fences in the centre. Te Hai, after commencing slowly over a round, was timed to run his last six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. He ran the first 'three furlongs in 30 seconds, and was doing his work well at the end. All Irish strode over a round in 1.47. the last half-mile being covered in 57 seconds. He looks none the worse for his racing at Ellerslie, and will fulfill his engagement at Tauranga. Alyth finished up a useful task by running the last 'three furlongs in 44 1-5 seconds. This mare ran a couple of good races at the Great Northern meeting, and may do better at the Bay of Plenty fixture. Fleetwincl worked on the sand, where she gat to the end of five furlongs in 1.6, the last half-mile taking 52 4-5 seconds. Fleetwind will make her next appearance at the Waipa meeting, to be held at Te Rapa next Saturday week. The Jumpers.
Tane Mahutu was sent over four hurdles in the centre, giving a very satisfactory exhibition. Orenda was given a similar task and made no mistake. This horse recently joined I. Tucker’s team. Chief Lap led Arikira over four of the same obstacles, fencing with plenty of dash, while Arikira showed improvement on his past efforts. Te Hai, Alyth and All Irish are due to leave for Tauranga on Thursday, to fulfil engagements at the Bay of Plenty meeting.
