The highest paid operatic star in the world, Madame Kirsten Flagstad, is passing through Auckland an the Mariposh, accompanied by her husband, Mr H. Johansen, a prominent Norwegian lumber man. Madame Flagstad is visiting Australia on a concert tour, 'and returns to New Zealand, probably early in August.
Mr Trevor Gould, formerly of Dargaville, who has been practising his profession at Nadi, Fiji', and who is on a visit to the Dominion, has been appointed assistant Crown Prosecutor, Colonial Service, Hongkong. . Mr Gould, who will visit Dargaville shortly, will take up his new appointment in August.
The death has occurred at Papakura of an old colonist and wellknown resident, Mr _ Charles J. McEntee,' aged 89. Mr McEntee was born in London, and arrived in Auckland with his wife in 1873 by the ship St. Leonards. One of his first experiences was to be sworn-in as a member of the militia, and to be given a rifle and ammunition, for although the Maori war was over, Te Kooti’s rebellion was a recent memory.
